Communities in vulnerable situations

TRANSFORMA-INNOVA will work taking into account communities in vulnerable situations, which are people who, for whatever reason, experience less participation in the main economic, political, cultural and social activities.

In this way, the program seeks to support the participation of communities in vulnerable situations considering the loss of livelihoods based on natural resources, as well as the failed or unrecognized use of their knowledge and practices.

To achieve true inclusion of these vulnerable groups, the following activities will be carried out:

  • Analyze the situation in the region of specific intervention with respect to land titles, livelihoods based on natural resources of communities in vulnerable condition, as well as useful indigenous knowledge and practices.
  • Ensure that communities in situation of vulnerability have access to the activities and benefits of the project on equal terms, having data and information on the presence of indigenous and Afro-descendant groups and actively integrating them into the planning activities and execution of the program at the local level.
  • Carry out processes consultation (Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)) whenever vulnerable, indigenous and Afro-descendant communities are affected or involved in program activities, to give these groups the opportunity to express their opinion, possible concerns and make proposals for improvement regarding the intervention.
  • Map existing local practices of marginalized communities, as well as indigenous and Afro-descendant knowledge, analyze the feasibility of integrating these practices into program activities, and also search for local fishermen and farmers who apply them. The program will always respect the traditional rights of indigenous peoples.
